BERWICK, COLUMBIA COUNTY -- A C

olumbia County man is in prison after police find him snooping near a Berwick business armed with a gun.

Just after 3 p. m. Wednesday, 32-year-old John Crispell was seen raking leaves in the yard next to the Maier’s bread store on Pine Street. But the people who live there called police saying they didn’t hire anyone to rake, and that
Crispell was wearing a ski mask and snooping around the store.

Police showed up, and Crispell refused to show his hands. Police took him into custody at gunpoint. He had a .22 calibur semi-automatic gun on him, which he’s not licensed to carry, as well as unprescribed painkillers.

This happened right across the street from the Weis supermarket where, earlier this week, a man demanded a woman’s purse and threatened her with a gun. No arrest has been made in that case yet. Police aren’t saying if the two incidents are related.
