CONYNGHAM TOWNSHIP, LUZERNE COUNTY -- A four-hour standoff here ended with the gunman shot and behind bars. It happened at St. Mary's Park Friday night.

Troopers say 37-year-old Ralph Galicki was inside a stolen car in the park and was armed with a gun. Troopers pleaded with him to drop his weapon.

John Novelli and his family have kept up with the park for more than 50 years. He stopped by to check on the place around 2pm Friday.

"I usually make a run through here twice a day just to make sure nobody is monkeying with anything or trying to get to anything," said Novelli.

He knew something was wrong when he saw a car parked on the other side of the storage building and troopers surrounding the area.

"When I saw the car in the back, I figured maybe he's a hunter," said Novelli. "But then when the cops were here with their guns, it must be something else than hunters."

After four hours of Galicki not cooperating, troopers say they shot him, but his injuries weren't serious. He was treated and released from the hospital. Galicki is in the Luzerne County prison, charged with burglary, carrying a firearm without a license, and nearly ten other charges.
