MOOSIC, LACKAWANNA COUNTY - A man has been charged with arson and other related offenses after allegedly lighting his home on fire early this morning. His wife had to be rescued from the roof by neighbors and an Old Forge police officer.
60-year-old Robert Makala was arrested this afternoon. Court papers say he used gasoline to start a fire in several spots in his home.
Crews rushed to the house fire on Boise Streeet in Moosic around 3:30 A. M. An Old Forge police officer was the first emergency responder on the scene. He and some neighbors helped rescue Mary Makala from the roof using a ladder from a nearby home.
She was taken to the hospital, treated and released.
Robert Makala is charged with 5 counts of arson, 1 count of criminal mischief and 3 counts of reckless endangering. He's in the Lackawanna County prison on $100,000 bail.
