PITTSTON, LUZERNE COUNTY - A Pittston man is behind bars after confessing to nearly two dozen burglaries in the greater Pittston area. Police say it all started before Christmas and continued until late last month.

There were thousands of dollars in property damage and missing money reported, but after a very short time police say they've got the man responsible for this recent rash of burglaries. David Kusma was arraigned on 58 charges including burglary, theft and criminal mischief.

He told WBRE News specifically he did it to support his drug habit. David Kusma of Pittston admits he alone broke in to 22 businesses between December and February. Reporter Jill Konopka asks, “Why'd you do it? David Kusma responded, ‘Drugs.’ Konopka added, “What kind of drugs? Kusma said, ‘Crack.’"

Kusma confessed to burglarizing restaurants, pizza parlors, bars and more in the Greater Pittston Area, all to support his drug habit. Reporter Jill Konopka asked, “Is there anything you want to say to the homeowners who are left to pick up the pieces?” Kusma stated, “I apologize to them."

Court papers show Kusma worked his way into a few places two, even three times. Now he's on his way back to jail. Chief Frank Mudlock stated,” It’s a good relief. You're talking in the thousands between damage” Chief Mudlock says Kusma broke into this Diner in Jenkins Township two nights in a row.

Mudlock added, "We had extra manpower out. We did surveillances; we did everything we could to get a resolution out of this." Surveillance video led Police to Kusma. Still they say, he hit lots of other places too.

Mary Mooney owns the Curry Donut Shop, "You know what? Clean your act up. You're drug problem; I shouldn't have to work to support you." Mooney and police say Kusma smashed a window, turned her office upside down and broke three game machines. Luckily, they don't leave cash behind. Mooney added, "It's not right and they blame it on drugs and they think they should get away with it because it's not their fault"

Andy's Family Restaurant across the street was targeted too Andy Hornick Sr. said, "Thank God he didn't do any damage. He looked for money and went out the back door.” Hornick hopes Kusma will think long and hard about his actions. Hornick told WBRE News, "They have to put him in jail. I know it's filled, let out from what they understand, they have to help these people." David Kusma said, "Yeah, I'm truly sorry for that."

Kusma was already jailed on two state parole violations. He’ll be back in court later on this month, for now he's being held on $100,000.00 straight cash bail.
