SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY- For the last 17 months, the Durkin family has been waiting for justice.

The first phase of that justice came Wednesday morning.

Robert Durkin, Jeff Durkin's father, said, "We have some relief. Not total satisfaction, not what we would have liked, but we're somewhat satisfied."

Nathan Daniels pleaded "no contest" to three charges: homicide by vehicle, DUI and reckless endangerment.

Prosecutors say Daniels was two times the legal limit when he crashed his car on Route 307 in Newton Township in 2008.

His friend and passenger Jeff Durkin was killed.

Durkin's sister Kristine said, "He was the greatest baby brother, life of the party, jokester. He would do anything for anybody."

After the wreck, Daniels took off to Florida for a year before being caught.

Rober Durkin said, "He obviously has no remorse, so whatever he gets, he deserves. No amount of sentencing is gonna bring my son back."

Daniels faces more than 10 years in prison when he's sentenced.

Prosecutors say he will have to serve at least three years behind bars.
