Man Pleads Guilty to Stealing From Veterans
Man Pleads Guilty to Stealing From Veterans - Wednesday, January 21, 2009 at 11:00AM EST
HONESDALE, WAYNE COUNTY- A man accused of stealing from two veterans groups plead guilty in a Wayne County courtroom Wednesday morning.
The trial of 61-year-old John Visci was supposed to start Wednesday morning when he changed his plea. Visci entered a guilty plea to two charges of Theft by Unlawful Taking.
The charges stem from the theft of $27,000 dollars from American Legion Post 254 in Honesdale and the Wayne County Veterans' Center. Visci was an officer with the post when the funds were discovered missing. He was tracked to California where he was arrested.
Jury selection in the case was completed on Monday. Visci was representing himself and had attempted to subpoena Congressman Chris Carney and State Senator Lisa Baker in his defense. Those and several other subpoenas were quashed by the court.
Several members of the American Legion Post were in court as Visci entered his guilty plea. James Byrnes said, "I'm glad its over. It's a sad thing when you think about it."
Visci will be sentenced in April. | |
