Man Sentenced for Brutal Susquehanna Co. Murder

Man Sentenced for Brutal Susquehanna Co. Murder - Thursday, May 21, 2009 at 6:00PM EST

MONTROSE, SUSQUEHANNA COUNTY- Horrific. Extreme. Callous. That's how a judge described a murder case in Susquehanna County. Now the suspect is going to prison.
Gustavo Xavier learned his fate Thursday morning. He admitted to killing his girlfriend with a sink post. Eyewitness News talked exclusively with the victim's family and friends.

For the parents of Lisa Nagurney Parlanti, seeing their daughter's killer in court was tough. Her father, Edward Nagurney, said, “I wanted to grab him. He needed a punch in the face. I wanted to draw blood. I deserve that as a father."

Gustavo Xavier will spend between 20 and 40 years for killing the 37-year-old and stuffing her body in a closet. He apologized in court and to our cameras.

Before sentencing, Lisa's family told Xavier what he took from them. Lisa’s mother Ann Marie Kaneski said, “He did look at me. He put his head down. I showed him her picture and how beautiful she is and he did listen to me."

Lisa Nagurney Parlanti was beaten to death inside an apartment building in Franklin Forks last year. Cops say it started with a domestic dispute. “You don't beat up a girl, 100 pounds, to death with a steel pipe, where it takes state police three days to identify her," said Edward Nagurney.

Friends say Lisa had an outgoing personality and zest for life. She liked shopping, movies, candy and pizza. Her former boyfriend Arnold Detrick said, “She had a passion for life. She loved life. She loved the spring."

Friend Lorraine Brady added, “She'll never be forgotten. She'll always be in our hearts."

Family and friends say they'll never forgive Gustavo Xavier for what he did. They also say his punishment wasn't strong enough. Lisa’s father Edward said, “It’s not enough, but I'm happy he won't be out there to prey on another young girl."

Her mother Ann Marie added, “I'll always think about her, but I'm gonna forget about him."
