HONESDALE, WAYNE COUNTY - A Maryland man is going to prison for killing a man in Wayne County.

Duna Bulow, 26, was sentenced Thursday morning to between five and ten years forstrangling Richard Prahl of Lakeville in 2007. Prosecutors say after he was killed, Prahl's body was dumped in a stream.

Bulow pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter in February.

"I think it's an appropriate sentence based on what he pled guilty to," assistant district attorney Pat Robinson said.

In court, defense attorney Scott Bennett said the strangulation was not planned. He tried to paint Bulow as the victim, saying Prahl sexually assaulted him.

"The victim in this matter had drugged my client and assualted him and our perseption was the victim did that as a way of committing suicide," Bennett said.

Those assertions angered prosecutors.

"I was not pleased but he's got the right to say what he wants to say, but we only have one dead person here," Robinson said.

After Prahl was strangled in Lakeville, prosecutors say Duna Bulow took the body to Maryland and dumped it in a stream-bed.

In court, the 26-year-old did not apologize, saying he only wants to go to prison to get his GED and move forward with his life.

"He now has a very positive outlook. He's looking forward to a term of prison where he can learn a marketable skill and a trade and hopefully build a good life for himself," Bennett said.
