Man Sentenced for Setting His Girlfriend on Fire - Wednesday, May 5, 2010 at 04:20AM EST

Wednesday May 05 2010
SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY -- A Scranton man is heading to prison for a string of arsons and setting his girlfriend on fire.

Randy Barr will spend six to 18 months in prison for the crimes. He admitted to setting a fire at an apartment building on Vine Street in Scranton in May, 2009.

In December of that year he started a shed fire on Prescott Avenue. And a month later he doused his girlfriend Marianne Krug with lighter fluid and set her on fire.

Lackawanna County Assistant District Attorney Corey Kolcharno said, "He has some serious mental health issues and is a pure fire setter. The judge recognized that and handed down a very harsh sentence which will protect the community for years and years to come."

Barr previously told attorneys that he loves fire.
