WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY- A coward. That's how the family of a murder victim described his killer at sentencing Monday. Jabbar Wallace of Wyoming Borough learned he's going to prison for a deadly shooting. It happened at the Glass Bar in Edwardsville in 2007.

A judge sentenced Jabbar Wallace to between 16 and 32 years in state prison. In court Wallace apologized to the mother of his victim, but she was in tears as she told him that he took her strength and backbone.

Jabbar Wallace stayed silent going into court Monday, but minutes later apologized for killing Eric Cusaac. Eric’s mother Joyce Cusaac said, “He isn't remorseful. He isn't meaning that apology. He went there with the intentions to kill my son."

She called Wallace a coward crying as she told a judge what she lost. My son did not deserve this, you know? My son was a good, good son and a good father," she told Eyewitness News.

A father to a 4-year-old girl who still doesn't understand what happened. “She says, when my daddy wakes up, he's gonna take me on trips. When my daddy wakes up," added Cusaac.

Debra Henderson, the victim's aunt, was also in court. She called Eric Cusaac a good nephew, son and bother. “I miss my nephew. It’s not the same. It’s not the same. It'll never be the same," she said.

Right before learning he'll spend between 16 and 32 years behind bars, Wallace reiterated his claim that the shooting was self defense. He says Cusaac punched him in the face before he opened fire.

“He didn't get the maximum, but he got enough time to be off the streets. He can't kill nobody else," said Cusaac.

The victim's family hopes their pain and suffering can send a message. “Don't take a life. Learn to talk it out. Don't fight it out. Talk it out," added Henderson.

Jabbar Wallace's family also testified in court before sentencing but they declined to go on camera.

Wallace was convicted of third degree murder back in March. He could have faced between 20 and 40 years behind bars.
