PAUPACK TOWNSHIP, WAYNE COUNTY – State Police at Honesdale are investigating the shooting death of a man from Lake Ariel.

Troopers say the 56-year-old was shot and killed sometime late Saturday night. State police guard the home of Carl Christophersen on Purdytown Turnpike in Paupack Township.

It was here troopers say Christopersen was shot and killed Saturday night. Details are few, but state police say the killer is still out there.

Reporter Jill Konopka asked Trooper Connie Devens, "Is anybody in custody at this point? Trooper Devens replied, “At this time no. It's an active investigation in the very early stages of our investigation. We're conducting interviews and gathering evidence at this point.”

Januz Berghoff and his family own and operate an arts, antique and bar-b-que pit across the street in Lakeville. Januz Berghoff spoke with Eyewitness News, "Carl was very good and quiet. He kept to himself a lot."

Berghoff was working the grill Saturday night, but he says he never heard or saw anything suspicious. Berghoff added, "It's an unfortunate incident. Nobody knows the details just yet. We're going to surely miss him as a neighbor; he came in several times to offer us eggs and things like that."

Not much else is known about Carl Christophersen, except he had his own design and creation business and worked odd jobs on the side. Still, even strangers say it's sad to hear about a homicide.

Jerry Ball of Queens bought a second home here nearly two decades ago. Ball also spoke with Eyewitness News, "I've had a house here for 18-years. I purposely bought the home to get away from all the crime in N. Y.C., because back then it was bad and it’s sad to hear it’s happened in this country setting. It's terrible to hear a local businessman had this happen to him.”

Anyone with any information should contact the State Police at Honesdale.
