Man Shot Overnight in Wilkes-Barre - Friday, December 5, 2008 at 06:22AM EST

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY- Police are investigating a shooting in South Wilkes-Barre. Around 12:40 A. M. police found a man shot in the leg on Academy Street between Old River Road and Carey Avenue.

Carlton Ayers told police he dropped his cell phone. When he tried to pick it up he says another man told him not to move or he would shoot him. Ayers says he thought the man was joking and picked up the phone. That's when Ayers was shot at twice and hit once in the thigh.

The suspect is described as a black male, 5'8" tall with a thin build and his hair in braids. Ayers was taken to Geisinger Wyoming Valley.
