PLAINS TWP., LUZERNE COUNTY- Stanley Carter would only say "no comment" when peppered with questions Monday morning. The 21-year-old waived all charges onto further court action after police say he stayed in Stacy Ferrance's home for days.
I'm sick to my stomach, absolutely. I just didn't want to look at him today, I really didn't," she told Eyewitness News.
Prosecutors say carter lived in the family's attic, ate their food, wore their clothes and even used their toothbrushes.
“I don't know what he's thinking, where he came from during this," added Ferrance.
Even Carter's defense attorney, Basil Russin, couldn't put it into words. “The defense in this case is poor. I've discussed it with him. There are no defenses, expect for the fact of the economy. The poor guy got thrown out of his house," he told Eyewitness News.
As for the Ferrance family, the ordeal has taken its toll on their three children, especially the youngest, who's 5. “She's kind of still scared to go to bed. She says she's scared when she goes upstairs in her room," she said.
“He's very sorry. He's just upset this happened. It was poor judgment, but he felt he was stuck in a very poor position," added Russin.
It’s a poor position that's forced one family into the national spotlight. “It’s definitely surprising. This I never expected, like I said, I'm just a normal person that works and has three kids," said Ferrance.
Police say Carter is originally from Arkansas. His defense attorney admits there will most likely be a plea deal in this case. The 21-year-old's next court hearing will be in March. | | |
