Man's Body Discovered in Wilkes-Barre - Saturday, March 28, 2009 at 10:55PM EST

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY- A man walking along a Wilkes-Barre creek makes a shocking discovery - a body in the water. The body was found in Solomon Creek Saturday afternoon. Police have said little about the man and haven't said if foul play was involved.
Police filled the area around Solomon Creek -- right behind Mesko Glass -- in Wilkes-Barre Saturday afternoon. This is where the body of a man was found just before 4:00 p. m.

Paul Miller was walking around the creek when he made the discovery. “A little shocking. Its’ not what you're expecting to see on a nice Saturday afternoon," Miller told Eyewitness News.

The man's body was found partially submerged in Solomon Creek. The lack of rain has left water levels extremely low. “It was right on the edge of the water, in the bank. It looked like it had fallen down the bank and landed face-first in the water… It was pretty decomposed. It had been there a while," said Miller.

Police have not released the name, age, or race of the man who was found. Robert Mesko, who owns a business in the area, was surprised to see the commotion. “There's always some stuff going on behind the building on these tracks. You always see strange looking traffic. People walking back and forth. You're always wondering what’s going on back there," said Mesko.

Since police have not said if the death is suspicious, some people are on edge. Julian Yarmark who is visiting friends in Wilkes-Barre, said, “I'm not thrilled about the fact the girl I plan on marrying some day lives a couple blocks down from where a dead body was found."

Police took away at least two envelopes of evidence. They would not comment on what was in them. Miller thinks they were items found around the body. “They pulled a purse out and there were some shotgun shells around, but from what I understand, there was no trauma to the body," he said.

An autopsy is expected to be done on the body. The results should tell us the cause and manner of death.
