Williamsport, Lycoming County-

A former United States district attorney has thrown his hat in the ring for U. S. Congress.

Tom Marino officially announced his candidacy for the 10th Congressional District of Pennsylvania Wednesday morning.

Surrounded by family, friends, and supporters, Marino vowed to reign in government spending, improve health care reform, and tackle the nation's record unemployment.

Marino said, "More and more, we find politicians blindly following the wishes of their leadership, instead of supporting us. And we're not going to take it anymore."

Marino, a Republican, is also a former Lycoming County district attorney.

He will be opposed by Republican Snyder County Commissioner Malcolm Derk, who announced his candidacy last month.

The seat is currently held by Congressman Chris Carney, a Democrat.
