MAYFIELD, LACKAWANNA COUNTY-An investigation is also underway into what caused a blaze in Lackawanna County.

It happened at a home in the 600 block of Poplar Street in Mayfield around 11:00 Wednesday morning.

The four alarm blaze caused heavy fire, water, and smoke damage to the home. No one was in the house at the time of the fire. Fire crews said they believe they know how the blaze started.

Mayfield Fire Department Chief Joseph Tomcavage explained, "It seems to me like it started in the cellar and worked its way up through the walls. Because the house is double boarded, with no insulation, it went up like a chimney. Both sides had heavy fire, 2nd and 3rd floor attic right away."

A Pennsylvania State Police Fire Marshal has been called in to investigate the Lackawanna County blaze.
