SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY - A Lackawanna County man is going to prison in connection with a deadly accident last year. Mark Stephens of Mayfield was sentenced Wednesday morning in Scranton.
According to prosecutors, Stephens was going more than 100 miles an hour, and had a blood alcohol content almost three times the legal limit, when he caused a deadly accident on the Casey Highway in Carbondale Township.
Two vehicles were involved in the accident. The other driver, 29-year-old Robert Quinn of Beach Lake was killed.
Stephens was sentenced to between four years and seven months and eleven years in prison. He will also be forced to make $20,000 restitution.
A month following the crash Stephens injured another man in a fight.
Stephens entered a plea of guilty to all of the charges against him. He was in tears as he appologized to the Quinn's family during the sentencing proceedings.
Quinn's widow said that she dosen't believe that Stephens' appology was sincere. She, her mother-in-la and sister-in-law all spoke before the court telling the judge how Stephens' actions had devistated their family.
We will have much more on Wednesday's sentence coming up on WYOU and WBRE News beginning at 5:00 PM.
