SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY - The first graduates of the new Commonwealth Medical College accepted their diplomas Saturday.
Graduate Linnea Mehls smiled,"It was a lot to be the first class and to kind of start a new tradition and to start being kind of the change that they see in northeastern Pennsylvania."
Governor Ed Rendell gave the commencement address. He said,"Remember you are very very lucky young people. You're going to make a good living doing exciting things."
Dr. Robert D'Alessandri is the President and Dean of the college. He smiled,"This really is kind of a dream come true for the faculty and for all of us."
Thirteen students earned Masters Degrees in Biomedical Sciences. Graduate Philip Davis, of Drums, said,"It prepared me 100% for medical school and i don't regret anything. I'm so happy i came here."
Davis wasn't sure about going to a brand new school at first. But now says he made the right decision. He said,"Being the first class you get to do different things. You get to kind of shape the school the way you kind of feel would best suit learning."
His mother was also glad he chose the Commonwealth Medical College. Tina said,"It was nice because he was able to commute and he could spend the year at home and that also helped financially that he didn't have to stay on campus."
Biomedical Science Grads can head right to work in medical facilities or continue on to medical school.
The Commonwealth Medical College will graduate its first class of medical doctors in three years. | |
