Some nursing home residents and nurses aren't happy with the proposed health care reform.
One reform bill is expected to be voted on in the house of representatives after Labor Day.
According to the coalition to protect senior care, proposed cuts would hit Pennsylvania hard.
Seniors and staff members at Riverstreet Manor, a senior living in Wilkes-Barre sign this petition.
It's headed to the congress: a message they're not supporting proposed health care reform.
Riverstreet Manor nurses assistant Sherri Toland said, "These medicare cuts should they be enacted would be very devastating. There is no way around it. "
According to the Coalition to Protecet Senior Care, proposed reform would cut 83 million from Pennsylvania long term care.
Riverstreet residents like Joseph Olesky hope Medicare isn't cut from proposed reform.
Olesky said, "I can't imagine what life would be like right now if we didn't have this place and these people to care for us."
Dr. Michael Koury's mother lives at Riverstreet.
He's upset with representatives who wrote the house version of the proposal.
"I don't know where they come from where they think they can put this in these bills that impact so many people," said Koury.
Health care reform is expected to be hashed out in the house and senate after Labor Day.
Until then, the final version of what this health care reform will look like isn't finalized.
Next Wednesday President Obama will address congress live on primetime television.
He is expected to present a suggested health care reform bill of his own in that address. | |
