LUZERNE COUNTY- AAA says more Americans are hitting the road for Memorial Day weekend this year than last. 32 million will be on the road.
One reason so many people will hit the road this weekend, gas prices. They may be rising, but they're more than $1 lower than this time last year.
Hitting the road for Memorial Day weekend destinations. Sandy Stellmann from Baltimore says a bad economy isn't going to stop her. "We all need a relief from all the stress and just be careful and go places that are within your budget, you know?"
Gas prices are more than $1.00 cheaper than last year. AAA says it expects more drivers on the road this Memorial Day weekend than last year.
Rick Osterlund from Binghamton is making the 750 mile trip from New York State to see family in Alabama. "I know that it's crunch time for a lot of people and I feel for a lot of folks that are out of work and searching for a job," he said.
For Becky Pierce of Boston, it's been smooth sailing. She's visiting family here in Pennsylvania. "No traffic, yeah, it's been straight through," she said.
Ed O'Lena from Connecticut is mapping out his trip. "We did this trip last year and we're going to do it again next year too."
He says his friends are hitting the road and staying within their means. "I think everybody is planning on going is going, that's what I've seen," he added. | |
