Michigan Man's Son 'Kidnapped,' Taken To Pa.

Michigan Man's Son 'Kidnapped,' Taken To Pa. - Wednesday, October 1, 2008 at 11:20PM EST

HUNLOCK TOWNSHIP, LUZERNE COUNTY- Pierce Edwards turned six Wednesday. For his dad, Jeff Edwards of Michigan, it's a tough birthday to bear. Edwards hasn't seen his boy since July. "He's missing soccer, he's missing school, his friends," Edwards said in an interview to Detroit NBC station, WDIV-TV.

Edwards has full custody of his son, however he says his ex-wife Muingo Muthui kidnapped Pierce. The 29-year-old was supposed to surrender Pierce in mid-August in Youngstown, Ohio. Edwards said she never showed. Muthui has conditional custody rights, according to reports.

According to the federal arrest warrant, authorities believe Muthui has been living on Trojan Road in Hunlock Township. The I-Team went searching for answers. A neighbor who did not want to be identified told us she spoke with Muthui only a week ago by cell phone. She said their kids were classmates. She told us she sympathized with Muthui because, like herself, she is a single parent.

The situation is not likely going to get easier for either side given information learned Wednesday night by the I-Team.

"I'm just very very worried, scared, upset, just fearful that she's done this," Edwards said.

Luzerne County Sheriff Michael Savokinas confirmed his department was assisting in the investigation. When asked about the inevstigation, a detective with the office told Eyewitness News "we're dealing with a situation that we need to keep a lid on it." The arrest warrant conveyed information from the sheriff's department indicating they believed Muthui fled with intent and purpose of avoiding prosecution on a pending kidnapping charge.

This information is contradictory to what one Trojan Road neighbor told us. The unidentified lady said she had a cell phone conversation about Muthui's dog wandering around her property. She said sheriffs had yet to question her about the investigation.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the FBI field office in Macomb County, Mi. at (586) 412-4844 or 911.
