LUZERNE COUNTY Ð All the rain weÕre expecting plus snow melting north of us, equals a rising Susquehanna River. It's an equation that means low lying areas will get flooded, especially in Luzerne County. The Susquehanna River is creeping up the River Common steps in Wilkes-Barre. Mud from January's minor flooding is still all over the place. We can expect another round of flood water by Monday. Bob Marcincavage lives in South Wilkes-Barre and is all too familiar with the minor flooding. "Every time we get a heavy snow and a heavy rain and it melts, I get maybe a half inch or something in my cellar," he said. Marcincavage is watching the river here in Nesbitt Park but isn't too worried. "The way they're saying now, I really don't think we're going to get that much," he added. Luzerne County Emergency Management says the outlook is good, considering the expected rainfall and snow melt. A 24-foot river crest is projected. That means minor flooding for low lying areas in Luzerne County like Shickshinny and parts of Plains. "At this point things are looking real good to this being similar to the end of January when we had some high water. But we want to emphasize, keep an eye on what's going on," said Bekanich. Specifically to the north and west. If weather patterns change, more water could be dumped into the river here in Luzerne County and most of our area. Gayle from Wilkes-Barre says there's not much we can do but wait and see. "I mean, the people that are going to get flooded always get flooded, what are you going to do?" she said.
