Adams Township, Snyder County-

A hiker reported missing Tuesday night in Snyder County has finally been found. Now the battle is on to get him out of the woods and into a hospital.

64-year-old David Bone, of Mechanicsburg, was reported missing by his wife when he didn't return from a hike in the Snyder-Middleswarth State Park.

Bone was found by rescue crews just before noon Wednesday, after a 16-hour search.

Snyder County E. M.A. Director Derick Shambach explained, "We do have paramedics and a LifeFlight team in there. They just got to him. They've started to extricate."

Rescuers located Bone's car, a Subaru Outback, near a camping area on Jack’s Mountain. They brought in search dogs in hopes of finding a scent they could track.

Bone was found about a mile from the car, roughly half a mile from the nearest trail, in some shallow water.

Assistant District Forester Jim Libko said, "Based upon the information that we have as of now, he only has on a light jacket. The temperature did get down into the 20's here last night. We have some concern about hypothermia. Again, he's elderly, on medications."

Crews, who had to travel to the location on foot, estimated it would take several hours to get Bone out of the dense wooded area where he was found.

Shambach noted, "Everybody's feeling pretty good that we found him and he was still alive. The biggest part now is to actually get him out and get him to a medical facility where he can be treated for the injuries he suffered."

We're told Bone is an avid hiker who carries maps with him on his travels. Rescuers couldn't pinpoint how or why he lost his way, but say the terrain here is extremely tough.

Libko added, "Very steep- it can be challenging for even the most seasoned hiker."

Rescue crews from four counties took part in the search.

We'll bring you an update on David Bone's condition as soon as it becomes available.
