WIILKES-BARRE-LUZERNE COUNTY- The 29th Annual Mock Rape Trial was held at the county courthouse Tuesday evening.

The trial is put on by the Victims Resource Center to help the community understand what a real trial is like. Students, teachers, and other officials participated in the trial, while Judge Mark Ciavarella presided.

Janet MacKay, Executive Director, Victims Resource Center explained why this mock trial is important. "A lot of professors give extra credit if their students come to it. We have high schools here, also students and some of their teachers think that it's an important learning experience when they're learning about the government, or criminal justice, or whatever class they're in," she said.

The Victim’s Resource Center also tells WBRE News that they sponsor the trial during April because it is Sexual Assault Awareness Month.
