EAST STROUDSBURG, MONROE COUNTY- Police have a man in custody who they say assaulted his girlfriend and ran after her with a gun.

Mark McGurk, 31, is behind bars in Monroe County.

Police say he tried to stab his girlfriend inside the East Stroudsburg Budget Inn at about 5:00 Thursday morning.

The woman escaped the hotel room but police say McGurk chased her out of the building with a gun.

They say he later called the hotel from a phone at the East Stroudsburg Wal-Mart and asked the clerk if the woman was still there.

His location showed on the hotel's caller ID and police picked him up.

McGurk is a convicted felon who is not supposed to have a firearm.

In August he held police in a seven hour standoff.
