STROUDSBURG - After six years of pain the family of a murdered Monroe County woman find some peace. Mark Miller admits he killed his girlfriend Helen Biank in October of 2001. Investigators say he then burned the house down to hide evidence. Monday Miller learned his fate.

Joyce Meyers keeps her murdered daughter Helen Biank close to her heart. Mark Miller shot Biank to death in October of 2001.
Monroe County Assistant District Attorney Michael Mancuso explained some of the details, "The woman was shot in the back of the head at close range. A great effort is then undertaken to cover his tracks."

Earlier this year, Miller plead guilty to the crime. Monday a judge sentenced him to between 15 and 40 years behind bars.

"Frankly the court was incorrect. WE will be filing a motion to modify the sentence," said Miller's attorney Bill Grant.

Before the sentencing Miller's family asked for leniency. His father said, "My son's a very good son."

When asked how a good person commits murder his parents both said, "Ask yourself that question."

Helen Biank's family and friends also spoke to the judge. They tearfully explained how much pain the murder has caused them. They described Helen as a loving, artistic and special woman.

Mark Miller took the stand as well. He sobbed as he apologized to Biank's mother.

"I've seen those tears before in similar situations so it didn't impress me much," said Mancuso. He doesn't buy the apology especially since Miller went to Florida after the crime. It took four years to bring him back to Pennsylvania.

"I don't know that that makes him any less sorry for what occurred. He ultimately accepted responsibility for what happened," argued Grant.

Whether or not his apology is sincere, Helen Biank is gone. Her family will be able to look at pictures but they'll never hear her voice or hold her close.

In addition to jail time Miller will have to pay restitution and court cost, in all more than $30,000.
