Monroe County Storm Review - Monday, November 19, 2007 at 3:52PM EST

POCONO TOWNSHIP - A tree near Sanofi-Pasteur in Pocono Township is just one of many that power companies in Monroe County had to pull off of electric lines Monday. The one that fell along route 314 crashed into a construction trailer and some cars. It also snapped a power line.

"Company was out here early this morning they had to kill the power far down the road and they grounded out both ends of the wire," said Thane Isherwood of Area Wide Protective.

When a tree makes such a big mess several different companies work together to restore power. It takes hours. "Different companies, Area Wide is here, PPL, and the tree service," said Isherwood.

Guy Miller Monroe County's Emergency Management Director said, "You have to cut the tree up. You have to be real careful and you have to restring those and they may already have four or five other crews in four other spots."

Miller said power outages were the biggest problems the snow caused. Unlike during past storms, PennDot kept the roads mostly clear and there were only minor car accidents in the county. "Just the fact that it caught us all by surprise - somewhat by surprise - I think they did a very good job," he said.

He also gave the electric companies credit for working as fast as they could and he reminded residents that we should always be prepared for an emergency because you never know when a storm could knock out your power.
