MONTROSE, SUSQUEHANNA COUNTY - Blueberry ice cream, blueberry muffins, even blueberry pizza, if you can think of it, you can probably get it at the 30th annual Montrose Blueberry festival. The festivities began Friday morning in Susquehanna County.
"They got everything you want. If you leave here hungry, you're crazy," Edward Dobrosielski of Rushboro said.
Each year, the young and old come out for the festival. Its a place where anything goes. No matter what your taste buds crave, they can make it.
"I said as I got out of the car, I'd like to have blueberry pizza, but I was joking. I didn't know there was such a thing," Maxine Hessler of Athens said.
The Montrose Blueberry Festival is the biggest fundraiser of the year for the Susquehanna County Historical Society and the Free Library Association.
"We typically raise over $50,000 and sometimes more, depending on the conditions," Hilary Caws-Elwitt said. Caws-Elwitt is the systems librarian.
At a time when funding is in limbo, volunteers say seeing everyone come out is important.
"We are busier than ever. When times are bad, people need their libraries more than ever," Caws-Elwitt said.
The Montrose Blueberry Festival continues from 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM on the village green in Montrose. | |
