State police are investigating a school teacher in Susquehanna county.

The teacher works in the Montrose area school district.

But the school district or state police wouldn't release the teachers name on Wednesday.

The school district didn't confirm much when we talked to superintendent Michael Ognosky.

"At this point the reaction of the district is that you're really asking me questions about an employee of the district and that would be a personnel issue and at this time I'm not going to address any issues in that regard,” said Ognosky.

Eyewitness news asked Ognosky why he wouldn’t be able to address the issue.

Ognosky said, “That's based on advice from our solicitor."

State police say no arrest has been made and that the investigation is active.

They also wouldn't say which specific school the teacher worked in.

We also asked when an incident took place to spark this investigation.

We were told that information can't be released yet.

While the school district is staying tight lipped this investigation is the talk of the town in and around Montrose.

Ray Totten of Montrose says, "It's a real close knit community. You feel like you could trust teachers and neighbors with your children."

Michelle Dugan of Hallstead says, "They should check everybody's background. Everybody, you know?"

Elsie Groys of Dimock says she wouldn't send children to a teacher under investigation.

"I don't think so, not if my children were going there," said Groys.

State police won't confirm if there's other people involved in this investigation.

A school board member told us this matter was discussed privately at a school board meeting on Monday.
