BUTLER TOWNSHIP, LUZERNE COUNTY- The plan to install tolls on Interstate-80 took another step forward this afternoon.

PennDOT and the Turnpike Commission signed a 50-year lease agreement for Interstate 80.

That means the Turnpike Commission will maintain the busy roadway and will pay PennDOT more than $83-billion for other road projects.

As part of the agreement, both agencies have asked federal officials to put tolls on I-80.

If given final approval, the money would be used for road repairs.
