Motorcycle safety awareness month
Motorcycle safety awareness month - Tuesday, May 6, 2008 at 4:08PM EST

May is motorcycle safety awareness month in Pennsylvania .
There are more motorcycles on the road now more than ever.
That's what Riders World general manager Mark Scappatura says.
"As far as motorcycle safety goes, anytime there's more numbers there's less safety it seems," says Scappatura.
He’s been selling motorcycles for years.
He says motorcycle safety all comes down to the driver.
"The main concern is the people driving the cars, talking on the cell phone, listening to the loud music. That's a main issue; you know people not paying attention because you don't see a motorcycle like you see a car," says Scappatura.
We've had many reminders about the potential dangers of bikes in our area.
Last month, a biker hit and killed in Hazle Township .
Another tragic accident happened in 2005, where a biker was hit and killed on a charity ride.
Bikers this days think about safety when buying their ride.
James Loughney of Dallas says, "It's kind of both. Looks and safety."
Wearing a helmet isn't required for drivers 21 and over in Pennsylvania .
This biker says he's buying one anyway.
"I don't want to get injured or killed, you know what i mean. If i get into an accident, always wear a helmet and the safety gear," says Loughney.
Riders World has posted signs reminding drivers to stay safe and look out for bikers when hitting the road. | |
