CARBONDALE, LACKAWANNA COUNTY

Heavy rain on Sunday night caused some flooding and a mudslide along a section of Business Route 6 in Carbondale.

Bill Ezman of Ezman Auto Sales said that his showroom, three garages and office were flooded. A neighbor, Phil Wentz, had several feet of water in the basemen of his rented home. Another resident, Doris Phillips, had water in her yard and two and a half to three feet of water in her garage.

The State Department of Environmental Protection believes the runoff originated at the site of a mine reclamation project on a mountainside above the area.

Carbondale Mayor Justin Taylor said he is scheduling a meeting with State officials to see what can be done to address the runoff problem.
