Murder-Suicide at Lackawanna County Plant

Murder-Suicide at Lackawanna County Plant - Tuesday, December 16, 2008 at 10:50PM EST

ARCHBALD, LACKAWANNA COUNTY- A shooting at a plant in Lackawanna County turned a typical morning at work into a nightmare for employees. Two people are dead in what investigators are calling a murder suicide. It happened Tuesday morning when gunfire rang out just after 9:30 at Lockheed Martin in Archbald.

Police say 59-year-old George Zadolnny shot and killed 46-year-old Deborah Bachak and then turned the gun on himself. They say the two knew each other well and had a prior relationship.

Zadolnny was a contracted security guard at Lockheed. He was allowed to carry a gun. Bachak was a 20-year employee who worked in the document control center.

State Police Trooper Bill Satkowski described their past relationship. "We were able to determine that it was a personal matter between the two, that they had a relationship that was broken off several weeks ago," he says.

It's not clear if Zadolnny used his security issued gun to shoot Bachak.

After the shooting all employees were sent home for the day. Nearly 600 people work at the plant.

The nearby Valley View School District was put on lockdown immediately following the incident, but that lockdown was lifted a short time later.
