WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY- The man accused in connection with the death of his father has pleaded guilty.
Edward Longfoot, 36, entered the guilty plea to charges of involuntary manslaughter for the death of his 75-year-old father Edward Albert.
Prosecutors say Longfoot got into a fight with his father at Albert's home on Blackman Street in Wilkes-Barre in October of 2006.
Authorities say Albert had a pre-existing heart condition and that, combined with the blow to his head, killed him.
Jarrett Ferentino, Luzerne County District Attorney, said, "It has always been the Commonwealth's position that Mr. Longfoot assaulted his father while he was keenly aware of his father's condition. We've always believed that his father died that night of a broken heart and his son broke it."
Ferentino said this case met the requirements of homicide by heart attack according to Pennsylvania law.
That's a first degree misdemeanor.
Longfoot was sentenced to 18 to 36 months with credit for time served and will have to pay restitution of $250.
