NANTICOKE, LUZERNE COUNTY- A Luzerne County teacher is in trouble with the law for allegedly giving alcohol to teenagers. Police say it happened at a party in Lake Silkworth last month.

Edward Alessandrini resigned from the Nanticoke Area School District at the most recent board meeting knowing charges against him were pending. Police say 35-year-old Alessandrini of Swoyersville bought beer and drank it with five 16 and 18-year-old girls.

Students Eyewitness News spoke with are surprised. “I can't see him doing it," said 15-year-old Brad Condo.

Condo says he was in Aessandrini's science class last school year. “I'm going to hate to see he's gone. He was a cool teacher. A good teacher too," said Condo.

Other students also say “Mr. A” was well-liked. “Everybody makes mistakes. People deserve a second chance. If he did it again, I could see,” said one student.

Police say Alessandrini went to a student party in Lake Silkworth the same night of another students' viewing. According to police papers, he drove to a bar and bought two twelve packs and four forty ounce bottles of beer, then went on to a second party with the students.

“According to the police papers, superintendent Anthony Perone contacted detectives when he came across pictures of Alessandrini posing with five teenage girls with cans and bottles of beer in their hands."

No one answered the door at Alessandrini's Swoyersville home. School officials wouldn't talk either. But the mother of one of the girls believes Alessandrini needs to be punished. “I think if he was at a party with minors he should be held accountable. Teachers need to be held to a higher moral standard because they're teaching our children," she said.

Alessandrini also coached football and wrestling. He's charged with corruption of minors and giving alcohol to them.
