Nasty weather greeted motorists during the morning commute on Wednesday. Snow, sleet and freezing rain made travel very dangerous.

One person is dead another injured after a violent crash in Monroe County.

Police say the driver of this car lost control on route 33 north in Hamilton Township at about 12:30 Wednesday afternoon.

State police believe the car may have rolled over several times - before it landed on the side of the road.

Neither victim was wearing a seatbelt - according to police.

Officials have not released the names of the victims - or any other details as of this hour. That wasn't the only problem in Monroe County in Stroudsburg the heavy

Build-up of ice caused trees to break and branches to snap taking out power lines on the way down.

It took hours before this road could re-open and power was restored.

In other parts of the county, drivers had a tough time traveling on the slick roads there were many crashes..

And as temperatures rose the slippery conditions gave way to water covered and flooded roadways in Monroe County.

In Luzerne County thousands had a slow wet ride into school or work Wednesday because of the mess on the roads.

The water didn't have anywhere to go causing "flood-like" conditions in the middle of the street.

D-P-W crews in Wilkes-Barre say they were out since yesterday morning salting roads and clearing away the slush.

And they are planning to work right through the night.

So far this winter -- the city of Wilkes-Barre has gone through more than 34-hundred tons of salt.

Roads were a sloppy mess in Lackawanna County as well.

WBRE News found plenty of drainage problems in Scranton causing traffic troubles.

"Boulevard Avenue" -- but it looked more like a lake than a road as drivers tried to make their way through the wet mess.

This was a common scene all across the area because of the heavy rains and snow clogged the snow ice and rain mix made for a dangerous combination in Susquehanna county as well

Police say the nasty road conditions caused the driver of a "heating oil truck" to lose control and roll over onto it's side.

The accident happened just south of Lenox Township on Route 92 around 9 this morning.

The good news the driver of the truck was not injured.

However, part of Route 92 was slow going while the wreck was cleaned-up in this section of Susquehanna County Wednesday.
