Neighbors Say Man Who Killed Trooper Was A Good Guy

Neighbors Say Man Who Killed Trooper Was A Good Guy - Tuesday, June 9, 2009 at 6:10PM EST

PALMER TOWNSHIP, NORTHAMPTON COUNTY - More details are emerging about the man who killed one state trooper and injured another. Friends say he was a neighborhood football and baseball coach. Neighbors say they're in shock.
Daniel Autenrieth lived in a nice home, in a nice neighborhood. He was apparently a nice guy. At least that's what his neighbors thought until Sunday. "I was shocked," said Dana Scuorzo. She lives in the town home attached to Autenrieth's. She saw him Sunday evening. Their kids all played baseball outside. They said good bye around six. Scuorzo said, "He seemed fine when he left - he seemed fine all day. I don't know where it went as far as it went."

It went very far. Fatally far. Just two hours after she saw him, Autenrieth was supposed to drop his kids off with their mother, his estranged wife. Police say he showed a gun and kidnapped his nine year old son Trevor. Scuorzo thinks that's a misunderstanding. She explained,"I think Trevor wanted to be with him and he just thought at the wrong minute and took him with him."

Autenrieth then lead police on a forty mile high speed chase that ended in a gun fight. Troopers shot Autenrieth to death. Shots he fired killed State Trooper Josh Miller and injured Trooper Robert Lombardo. "I think it's horrible that this had to happen," said Scuorzo.

Neighbor Nathaniel Davarie was also shocked. He told Eyewitness News Autenrieth helped him sell Christmas trees for charity. He said, "He was really helpful with that and he let me borrow his trimmer and he actually showed me how to use it."

While neighbors say Autenrieth was once a nice neighbor and a good guy he apparently made extremely bad decisions that ended two lives and changed countless others. Devarie said, "It's sad to see it ended like this. Like it's done. It's gone."

Autenrieth leaves behind three children ages nine, four and three. Trooper Miller also had three children. They are 16, 12 and two.
