DUNMORE, LACKAWANNA COUNTY- A brand new bar and restaurant is getting ready to open this week in Lackawanna County but it's not your average bar. It's a place that has a very special purpose.

Take a look inside the new Hometown Heroes bar in Dunmore. From the pictures on the walls to the patches inside the bar, everything in eyesight is meant to honor our local fire, police and military personnel. ÒItÕs a lot more than a corner bar. We want to kinda get away from that stigma," said Vince Sardo.

Sardo and Tom Murphy are co-owners. Both are full-time firefighters who want to honor our regions heroes. ÒI'm an Iraqi combat vet. I lost seven of my guys over in the war. All the guys that were killed in the line of duty, this is what the whole bar is geared towards, to honor them," said Murphy.

Recent sacrifices, like Scranton firefighter James Robeson are honored. So are others from the past. ÒThere's a guy from 1920 and a guy from 1941 that no one knows about. Its a shame that tomorrow, we could die in the line or duty and 30-40 years from now, no one knows what we did," said Sardo.

The bar is two-floors. It will also offer an extensive American and Italian menu.

The owners have been working five months to get the bar ready. They plan to donate a part of the profits to fallen heroes organizations. ÒWe're ecstatic about it. ItÕs been grueling. A lot of hard work. A lot of long hours," said Sardo.

Murphy added, ÒThe support we're getting is unbelievable. Everybody's behind us 100-percent and that makes us feel a lot better."

The new Hometown Heroes bar is located on East Drinker Street in Dunmore, right by the four corners.

A special event is going on Monday night followed by an invitation only party Thursday. The bar officially opens to the public on Friday.
