WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY- A new group is being formed to save local Catholic churches. The announcement came Tuesday afternoon on the steps of Sacred Heart Church in Wilkes-Barre.
A group called Council of Parishes of the Diocese of Scranton plans to fight the closings announced over the weekend.

It claims that the percentage of churches targeted to close in the Scranton Diocese is much larger than the rest of the country.

Council of Parishes of the Diocese of Scranton will hold an organizational meeting. It's Thursday night at 8:00 at the North End Slovak Club on North Main Street in Wilkes-Barre.
