New Heroes Memorial Dedicated in Scranton - Wednesday, November 26, 2008 at 11:10AM EST
SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY- A new memorial dedicated to area soldiers killed in the war on terror was dedicated in Scranton Wednesday.
The 'Heroes Memorial' honors the lives of six soldiers who died while fighting in either Iraq or Afghanistan. They are Lance Corporal Dennis Veater, U. S Marines, Sergeant Eric Slebodnik, PA Army National Guard, Master Sergeant Scott Ball, PA. Army National Guard, Sergeant Jan-Michael Argonish, PA. Army National Guard, Sergeant First Class George Pugliese, PA. Army National Guard and Staff Sergeant Steven Tudor, US Army.
Family members of the fallen soldiers, friends, representatives of area Veteran's organizations and elected officials attended the dedication ceremonies.
Kendra Lynn is the sister of the late Staff Sergeant Steven Tudor. She first approached Scranton Mayor Chris Doherty with the idea for a memorial more than a year ago. Now that the project has been completed she said, "People will be able to look at these and remember, for generations and generations, are never forget the sacrifice that they made for us.
The memorial, made of of six steel sculptures, is located near the Davis Trail in Scranton's Nay Aug Park. | |
