HAZLE TOWNSHIP, LUZERNE COUNTY- A local judge began his new term Tuesday.

Judge Correale Stevens was sworn in at the Hazle Township Senior Center.

A judge would normally be sworn in at the court house, but Judge Stevens was invited by the Senior Center and said he liked the family atmosphere.

He also says his court has a lot of work to do this year.

Judge Correale Stevens, PA Superior Court said, "2008 is going to bring many challenges for my court. We had over 8,000 appeals last year. For better or worse, there are a lot of criminal cases out there in addition to the civil cases."

Judge Stevens has been serving as a Superior Court judge since 1997.
