SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY- Representatives of the new Medical College to be built in Scranton have received a $30,000 grant from an area foundation.

The Chick Feldman Foundation was set up in honor of Samuel "Chick" Feldman, the late sports writer for the former Scranton Tribune newspaper. It has donated money to educational programs for many years.

The Foundation President is State Senator Bob Mellow. With only one of its original founding members still alive,the current Foundation Board decided to close its activities with the grant to the Medical College. It is expected to be used for a scholarship program.

The Medical College is scheduled to open next year in facilities provided by Lackawanna College. Groundbreaking for a permanent college campus is expected to take place later this year.
