SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY -- PPL has a tool to bring power back to its customers. It's called mobile operations management, or MOM.

PPL Respond to Customer Group leader Jeff Hobbs said, "This information, they didn't have before, it had to go over the radio. Over the radio there wasn't as much detail as there is now."

MOM gives real time maps and customer outage information to workers in the field. he program started last year. In years past, workers had to sift through paper maps and used a two way radio on all outage calls.

Workers practiced using the MOM program Wednesday here at PPLÕs headquarters in Scranton.

PPL is gearing up for possible snow Thursday and any more early fall storms. Snow on PPL lines can create a problem but workers say in the fall and winter they're more concerned about snow on leaves which can create a bigger problem.

PPL spokesman Richard Beasly said, ÒWe've been through it before. It's not novel to us by any means, but it's something we're keeping an eye on."
