SWIFTWATER, MONROE COUNTY - Carter Shook is one of the first kids in th Pocono School District to have full day Kindergarten. "We make letters," he told Eyewitness News.
He and his classmates now have twice as much time to make letters, learn numbers and play with color. Carter's mom Joanna Shook is also a teacher at the school. She said, "The kids have many opportunities. You don't have to cram pack everything into two and a half hours. It's wonderful."
The new Kindergarten class is learning in a brand new school. The Swiftwater Elementary Center opened this week. "Everything's bigger, better and just amazing," said fifth grader Jessica Keane. "It's really awesome and I really like it," added fifth grader Rebecca Cruz.
Every class room has computers and electronic white boards instead of chalk boards. "Well the classrooms are a hundred percent bigger. The desks are really nice," said Keane.
With the happy fifth graders giving the school good marks, it looks like Carter and the rest of the new Kindergarten class has a grade "A" future ahead of it. The school cost about $50 million.
