Montoursville, Lycoming County-

A new statue stands watch over a park in Lycoming County.

At Indian Park in Montoursville, the old totem pole was recently replaced by a sculpture of an Eastern Indian.

We’re told the old totem pole was deteriorating to the point that it was falling apart.

Montoursville residents say they like the new addition to the park.

Yvonne Stheirheim said, “I think it’s a great idea. And I think it will be a good education for the kids to learn more about the heritage of the natives here.”

The Volunteers of Indian Park were in charge of replacing the old totem pole. They say the Eastern Indian statue cost about $12,000 and took three months to build.
