STROUDSBURG, MONROE COUNTY - There are new ways for you to lose weight and gain muscle in the Poconos.
The Pocono Family YMCA opened a new Pilates Reformer and Spin Studio. Fitness Director Dorinda Daley said,
“The reformers are great for flexibility. They’re great for core work and any level of fitness can participate.”
June Smith was one of the first people to try the machines. She said , "For a lot of people who’ve never done this before it gives you a lot of confidence and improves your self esteem.” June and her family have been attending the Stroudsburg YMCA for thirty years. She said, “Got the children involved in teen strength training, we did fencing, we brought the dog for puppy training.”
Not all families are as fortunate. Some can't afford gym memberships. The Y has a scholarship program but it's running low on money. So Eyewitness News is helping to raise money with the YFit Media Challenge.
There is a fund raiser on Sunday at Stroudsburg High School. It starts at 10 a. m. Registration begins at 9:30 and it's free. It's an hour long walk/run. For every lap someone walks or runs Pocono Raceway will donate 50 cents.
