PITTSTON, LUZERNE COUNTY- He's moments away from 90. Though at 89, Fr. Hugh McGroarty still ranks as the Scranton Diocese' oldest active priest.

He calls Saint John the Evangelist Parish home. There he ministers to parishioners, visits the sick and presides at Mass for the elderly residents of Wesley Village, a nearby nursing home located in Jenkins Township. "Fr. Hugh," as most call him, has served in numerous churches across the 11-county diocese.

He's been a priest for 64 years. The parish of St. John honored him with a special celebration on Sunday.
