No Room in Budget for Officers

No Room in Budget for Officers - Tuesday, December 23, 2008 at 5:32PM EST

Montgomery, Lycoming County-

In Central Pennsylvania, three part-time police officers in Montgomery will get the axe next year.

Borough council overrode Mayor Andrew Onufrak’s veto in deciding to cut the positions. One other borough employee will also be laid off.

Council members say they can’t afford to pay the three part-time officers without raising taxes. That leaves Montgomery with three full-time officers in a borough with 1700 residents.

Council will consider some other budget cuts at their January meeting, which could eventually allow them to re-hire one of the part-timers.
