MOSCOW, LACKAWANNA COUNTY

Kindergarten and first grade students from North Pocono's Academy Street School are trying to make Christmas a little brighter for people in need.

The students, about 300 in all, have been collecting food and clothing from family, friends and faculty members at the school. All of the supplies have been donated to the Community Intervention Center in Scranton.

The Center is a daytime gathering place for the homeless in and around the city. Individuals can rest there, watch TV, play games, and get counseling for problems they may have. They are also made aware of training and job opportunities.

The student's donations will be packaged and given to those using the center. First grader Anna Bajor said collecting and giving the donations makes her feel 'happy and excited."

The students are also collecting recipes which the school will include in a Cook Book to be sold in the spring. The proceeds from that book will also be donated to the Community Intervention Center.
