PITTSTON TWP., LUZERNE COUNTY- The Northeast Fair is back this week -- and organizers say, it's better than ever. They expect more than the 35,000 fair-goers they saw in 2008.
Pittston Township Volunteer Fire Department President Joe Aliciene said, "If we keep making $65,000 a year, the return is great."
That return helped the Pittston Township Volunteer Fire Department put up five new buildings, including a horticulture area, a 4-H barn, a community pavilion, and more-- nearly half a million dollars worth of improvements.
There are more than 20 rides -- for people of all ages. And a mostly sunny and dry weather forecast will keep the fair-goers happy Tuesday through Sunday. "The weather is extremely important, without good weather, there's no way we'd make the kind of money we need to operate," he said.
He realizes penny-pinching might keep some people home Ð but hopes it doesnÕt. "However you just can't beat the deal here, husband, wife, and children, pay $8 ride over 20 rides, see shows, games, they could really get into it,Ó said Aliciene.
He says if enough money keeps coming in from the fair -- the fire department hopes to build another stage area for entertainment in the coming years.
The fair kicks off Tuesday at 5PM. | |
